For students, conflicts with a landlord, an employer, or a school’s administration can be stressful and difficult to resolve, especially as seeking professional legal counsel is often an expensive, time-consuming process.
That’s why we’ve designed a Legal Care Program—the first of its kind in Canada—to ensure that students have the tools and financial means to defend their legal rights. This service allows them to request a consult with a lawyer for any legal question. Moreover, through the Essentials component of the Program, students also have access to legal representation in certain areas of law, with services tailored to their needs.

Offer your students LEGAL REPRESENTATION IN THESE AREAS OF LAW:
HOUSING DISPUTES
Legal expenses arising from a dispute over a housing lease, such as a disputed rent increase, an illegal eviction, or a breach of a condition in the lease.
EMPLOYMENT DISPUTES
Legal fees related to a dispute relating to a current or future contract of employment, with respect to labour standards for grievances not covered by a union or a government agency. However, the Program does not include legal fees if the student is eligible for legal representation services provided by a government agency. Occupational health and safety disputes are not included in legal representation services.
DISPUTES WITH AN ACADEMIC INSTITUTION
A student’s legal expenses in the event of a dispute with an academic institution. This excludes cases related to sexual misconduct or a criminal act.
PUBLIC NOTARIES
Students who require commissioning services can arrange for virtual meetings to commission affidavits. Notarizing services are also offered.

LEGAL REPRESENTATION INCLUDES:
- Lawyers' fees
- Legal expenses (disbursements): attendance fees, court fees (except for fees the student may be ordered to pay by the court), witness expenses
- Fees for an expert witness, up to a maximum of $1,000
LEGAL CONSULTATION
This service provides quick access to legal counselling on any area of law. It includes:
- Virtual, phone, or in-person meeting with a lawyer
- Legal research
- Document analysis: contracts, formal notices, procedures, etc.
- Interpretation of laws and jurisprudence in relation to the student’s situation
- Legal advice on the student’s situation
- Explanation of legal concepts
- Sharing legal information
- Case follow-up with the law firm
- And more
Students can go online 24/7 at their convenience to fill out a form and request legal support. After the form has been submitted, it takes 24 to 48 business hours for the legal partners to contact the student.
